At first look, Danjon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka? (Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a dungeon), seems like your everyday fan service anime but after going through a few episodes, this anime is no where what the title claims the story to be. Meet Bell Carnell, a 14 year old boy who’s a solo adventurer under the blessing of the goddess Hestia. He is the only member of the Hestia family and tries his hardest to survive the dungeon to make ends meet and become stronger.
If you like one of those over-powered MC then this is the anime for you as it sets him getting everything on a gold platter and starting out with higher stats then your normal beginner adventurer. Apparently, almost all the females surrounding him have some kind of romantic attachment to him thus making him one of the most desired males in the animes and makes you want to ask yourself what’s so good about that guy and the obvious answer to it: He’s the main character.
The plot is mostly driven on him getting stronger by conquering his fears and eventually getting to a point where it’s easy to understand why he’s growing so fast and beating the living hell out of those monsters even though his stats are low – Hero. His special skill, Juggernaut, allows him to destroy an opponent stronger than him which kills almost all the tension that’s supposed to build up since you know he will use it when he’s cornered. The plot isn’t very well defined and makes it hard to understand what the characters are thinking or planning specially the #1 Goddess, Freya. She seems to have a sadistic personality whenever Bell is concerned pointing towards her having affection for him which also leads her to preparing challenges for him behind the curtain making him more stronger and over-powered for his current level.
The actions scenes are flashy which had my eyes stuck on the screen with every fight scene that took place and made me more eager for the next episode. The story doesn’t drag on and everything is quick and fast paced not much time for a breather which makes this anime worthwhile if you are one of those who impatient ones who can’t wait to know what’s coming next. Overall, it’s a good anime but not something I would want to continue watching.
