Essay: Thirst for Knowledge
Chiasson (p.170) acknowledges that Ulysses is one of the best works that Tennyson ever wrote and this is greatly attributed to the teachings it has about the importance of seeking after knowledge in life. Tennyson concentrates in showing what an individual can achieve if he sticks to his goals of gaining knowledge with each passing day.
He however shows the difficulties that one must be ready to encounter when in search of education and that it is only those that show the greatest perseverance who emerge victors in the end. Written at a time when there were so many British citizens in search of a better life, Tennyson put forth a great piece of literature that boosted the morale of all individuals in their search for a better tomorrow.
