Essay: Religious Views on Homosexuality
Religious beliefs have a significant effect on the kind of an adult life that a growing person will have. Most of the world’s religions disagree with homosexuality (Gurian 134). Teachings from the holy books show that a man should marry a woman. Bringing up a person in a religious society, enables one to always remember that homosexuality is evil, and thus despise it.
On the other hand, people who do not hold these beliefs have higher chances of becoming homosexuals because they do not view it as going against the will of the super natural being they believe in. for example in the bible, God punished those people who were practicing homosexuality in Sodom (Gen. 39, Good News Bible). In addition Leviticus 20:13 forbids homosexuality when it reads, “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death” (Lev. 20:13, Good News Bible). Doing the right thing is essential in every religion, since the ultimate goal of all believers is to please their god.
