By glancing over the tendencies of the two prominent characters of the play “A Doll’s House” Nils Krogstad and Torvald Helmer the broad characterstics can be easily identified.
Torvald is supposed to have a good future and great social worth in contrast Krogstad has a dark future and is a hated character. But yet the two characters are a foil. Torvald was considered to be a law abiding, responsible individual but when he was blackmailed by Krogstad he submitted himself to his trance hence giving up his upright character and lawful approach. Krogstad is therefore a foil because he also chooses to be unlawful to secure his job. By considering this one can easily form an idea that the two characters are equal in evil tendencies but in opposite directions. By the end we see that Torvald is alone whereas Krogstad has a new hope for his bright future.
