Essay: The first prison design
This model differs from the earlier models in that it separates its cells into different areas depending on the security needs. This was the first prison design that allowed for the provision of all the facilities needed within the prison walls.
These are the kitchen, auditorium, bath house, library, school and gymnasium Bosworth (2002). Another prison design identified is at the federal prison camp, Alderson, which is a facility for women. This architecture did not utilize the telephone pole or the auburn style. This designed utilized the ‘cottage system’ where the women were housed in low-level, freestanding houses that are set in a rural set up.
