Essay: Pre World War 2
Before World War 2, the Japanese automobile industry is not a competitor all to the USA and European countries because of its undeveloped technology. As time goes by and with the assistance by the European automobile manufactures, Japan’s automobile industry starts to gain basic technology of handling basic materials like steel plates, painting, special steels etc (Shimokawa, 1994, p. 6). In addition, affiliation such as Nissan-Austin, Hino-Renault and Isuzu Hillman gives a fresh experience to Japanese automobile industry (Shimokawa, 1994, p. 7).
Although there is cooperation between Japan and European countries, there is no immediate success until 20 years later, domestic demand for car start to increase due to reorganization of manufactures and subcontracting system. Toyota and Nissan have a strategic model than will fit their massive and high production line. These models are known as Corona, Bluebirds and Crown back to the old days (Shimokawa, 1994, p. 8). At the same time, motorization sweeps through the whole country and others manufactures also step in to share the potential prosperous automobile market. Mitsubishi used to manufacture truck back to World War 2 for the government, but after the reform of industrial laws (which originally only allow Mitsubishi to produce trucks for the use of military) (Shimokawa, 1994, p. 7), Mitsubishi starts to make vehicles too. The unprecedented growth rate of automobile industry attributes to several factors such as the effective adoption of technology from European and American’s manufacturer, supervision and regulation by the government to enforce all companies have to adhere to every law that ensure no cars will exceed the emission rate, meet the fuel efficient rate and safety of car vehicle and trucks.
