Essay: The First People to Explore the World
It is of paramount importance to note that though many people might dispute it, the Portuguese were the first people to start exploring the world. This can be attributed to the fact that they were the first people to have a strong empire in Europe. On the other hand, the Spanish empire was one of the largest and mightiest during the 15th century.
A Spanish voyage led by the infamous Christopher Columbus was the first to discover the Americas. The exploratory voyages of Christopher Columbus led to the colonization of the American by Europe for they were the first to realize that there was a land of uncivilized people in the American continent. Of importance to note is that the Spanish had occupied the Caribbean islands by the 16th century. Spice trade led the Portuguese in finding the way of where the trade originated from. The main mission of the Portuguese had begun in 1419 but they had specified in the African coast. The Portuguese had dominated the Indian Ocean trade but it ended after they were defeated by the Dutch in the 17th century.
