Essay: Multiplication Lesson Plan
In ordinary discourse, the term multiplication as used in the mathematical context simply means scaling a number by another – getting the product of, say, two numbers x and y.
Before commencing on any lesson plan to guide the teacher’s effort in helping students learn multiplication concepts, the tutor ought to ensure that the students possess a sound understanding of the fundamentals of mathematics. The teacher then proceeds to educate the pupils “the concept of multiplication based on the manipulation of concrete materials using array patterns” (Howard and Dumas 212). Howard and Dumas explain at this early stage, “a tutor sets out to bridge the gap between the concrete stage that involves building arrays and the symbolic stage – memorization of the facts.” (214)
