This is also called vertical infection and targets women at childbearing age or who are pregnant (Alem et al. 2006, p. 97). Counseling does not only educate couples on positive living and prevention of HIV and AIDs if found negative but also educate especially women on the need to prevent mother to child infection.
This is one factor that influences most couple’s decision to visit counseling centers. Despite the fact that this responsibility is mostly left for women, men have also engaged themselves in making such decisions mainly to avoid infections of their progeny (Aids research center, 2009). Special needs should be put in place for pregnant women who should know their serotype status for them to protect their unborn babies.
