Essay: Lucy and Mina in the Dracula
After Dracula has succeeded in transforming Lucy into raving vampire vixen, the men led by Van Helsing decide that there is no alternative other than to destroy her. They want to bring her back to purer state and thus make her more acceptable and respectable in the society. After the men succeed in transforming Lucy, back to what she was they become worried that they might lose Mina to the evil side.
The men in the novel find themselves worried about the sexual behaviors of the women and they do not want their women to associate with those they feel are socially unacceptable. The men are concerned about their safety as is evidenced when Dracula tells them, “Your girls that you all love are mine already; and through them you and others shall yet be mine.” “Your girls that you all love are mine already; and through them you and others shall yet be mine” (Stoker and Allen 256). There is a comparison, which is drawn from the bible whereby Adam was lied to by Eve and they fell short of the glory of the Lord.
