Essay: Longfellow and Whitman
Longfellow remains a poet who is very important in literature since he was assigned to schools frequently and he met many people who admired him so much. He was among the first people to bring poetry to the center of the American culture from the fringes where it was hidden for ages. Poetry had not seemed important to the eyes of the people but he helped people understand the importance of poetry. He made it clear to people that poetry had ideas and especially society issues, which were passed to the entire community.
Whitman also came at the period of Romanticism in America and helped in publishing a number of literature works to help the country recover from the several wars that had taken place. It is therefore true to argue that one of the similarities in Longfellow, Bryant, Whitman, and Dickinson is about the time in which they came into being noticed. They came when literature work was not valued in America and in fact, they were using the England version. They thus helped in showing the importance of literature in America and even went a step ahead to transform the literature in America. They came into being during the Romanticism Period in America when artists were expected to hold their act of imagination rather than following the existing styles. It was at this time that each artist ought to be original in the idea, he wanted to pass across and thus each artist was to be recognized for being unique.
