Essay: Linear indirect configuration
The two systems are known as the linear indirect configuration since they feature the long narrow organization that allows for easy supervision. This linear system has also caused staff to lose site of some pars of the building US Bureau of Prisons (1949). In 1949 a report from the federal bureau of prisons, criticized the auburn design. They argued that the heavily barred and bolted steel fortress did not reflect the ideology of prisoner rehabilitation and reform. This reflects an age in the society to shift from the harsh punishment style of imprisonment to a more rehabilitation style of management Bosworth (2002).
Another major style of architecture is seen in USP Lewisburg, which utilizes the telephone pole model which originated fromFrance. In this architecture the cellblocks extend from the central corridor that connects all the cell houses and other facilities Bosworth (2002).
