Essay: The Will to Learn
In this poem, Tennyson also uses his character Ulysses to show the importance of having the will to learn and expand one’s knowledge. Ulysses was a young man who wanted to know everything that he did not before.
He sets out to explore the world and he knows that he can be able to do this as he is still a young man who has got a lot of energy inside him. Unlike many men who wait until their pathological energy is almost worn out, the poet uses his poem to show us that it is important for one to explore education while still young and not wait until the mind is not strong enough to internalize and memorise new knowledge (Thomson, p.27)
