Kaizen is a philosophy that forces implementation of some leading manufacturing strategies including TEI (Total Employee Involvement), TQC (Total Quality Control), JIT (Just In Time) and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and all these ensure that delivery, quality and cost factors are improved. McDonalds is a chain of hotels that applies TQC in all its products to reduce wastes through loss of customers. It ensures that its products are of quality and this ensures repeated buying by the customers.
Employees can be involved in the production process in two ways namely the 5s or in the work areas. 5s is a bit simple since all the employees are involved in all the stages of production and by use of the same strategies. In the work areas method, the employees are involved through a sequence of focused improvement strategies with different improvement strategies employed for different types of sessions. The lean processes are learnt as they are implemented, there are no prior trainings. In order for the Kaizen team to be effective, it should consist of between 8 and 10 members including the employees involved in the improvement process, their supervisor, and several people from the major departments. Hiltons hotels enures that they manitaing their production at some certain levels and this ensures that customers remain loyal to them. There is no time they will produce and end up in wastes for they will always have their clients in almost the same numbers.
