Essay: Joining the army as a pharmacist
My passion has always been rooted in the desire to help others. I demonstrated this passion as I obtained my PharmD degree in order to pursue a career, which allowed me to better the lives of others. After my graduation, I sought employment in retail pharmacy, at that time, I believed this was a fulfilling career choice, as I enjoyed both interacting with people and making a difference in their lives. However, I have discovered that working in retail pharmacy has changed significantly. Retail pharmacists are a valued resource that many people used in order to gain knowledge about medications used to treat illness. Unfortunately, I have found that retail pharmacy places a stronger emphasis on corporate practices to pharmacy practice. I find myself talking to insurance companies and doing non-pharmacy related tasks. Many days I find myself doing these corporate tasks, loosing valued time to interact and help the customer with his or her medical needs. For these reasons, I am applying to the United States Army in order to better help people.
I believe a career as a pharmacist in the Army will allow me to utilize both my passions and talents. In applying for this position I seek to perform my civic duty in helping my country and the brave individuals fighting for our freedoms. Through this opportunity I look forward to helping soldiers obtain medical help. I vow to work hard in order to ensure the care of all soldiers; as these men truly are the brave individuals that risk their lives fighting for our freedoms.
