The home environment one is brought up in, has a significant effect on the child and ultimately determines whether such a child will be prejudiced (Benitez, 1996). Children are fast learners and are apt to get their first lessons from their parents.
Consequently, they imitate their parents, and what their parent believes or does, becomes their own standard of looking at the world. For example, say that a child has parents who are racists and make derogatory remarks about a particular minority group. When this goes on for a while, a child is bound to follow the example of his parents. In addition, parents can directly teach their children some behavior. This may be by encouraging them to haste a particular group with the intention of raising negative feelings and attitudes in their young child (Aboud, 1988).
