Essay: Green award schemes provide competitive advantage
The Green award scheme is known to be the largest as well as most successful sustainable tourism in the UK. For a firm to qualify for green awards, there are several factors, which ought to be considered. These factors include biodiversity, waste management, and water and energy efficiency among others. Despite this fact, the Green award scheme has failed in providing competitive advantage for hospitality operations.
1. The Green award scheme has failed in designing new hotels in Europe that are housed in traditional buildings. The scheme has failed in making it possible that this type of hotel is efficient to heat, to modernize and to cool. This has in turn affected the planning restrictions involved, the ambient of the hotels as well as the clientele they seek to attract. The Green award has sought for support from the EU government to impose sanctions on owners of buildings with large quantity of carbon. This type of limitation is highly evidenced in Spanish hotel companies (Ayuso, 2007).
