Essay: Criminal justice system (gender issues)-Reentry preludes
As opposed to men, males play a very influential role in upholding the values of the society. When it happens that women are incarcerated for one reason or another, the same women are expected to resume their role in the society immediately after they are released. This includes reunification with their children if they had some, a factor that adds the burden of females (Bloomand and Covington, 1998, p. 48). This calls for different treatment to females while in prison with most correctional procedures aiming at making reentry more positive and easier to individuals and the society.
Unless such measures are put in place, women will always find the life back into the society more boring and intimidating especially when given a cold reception. Introduction of different correctional procedures for women is supported by the fact that women have unique gender roles to play as opposed to men (49). Therefore, they should be given a social and gender sensitive care while in prison in preparation to reentering the society. Such services lack in most prison across the US a fact that has lead to and increase in female recidivism.
