On April 20th 1999, two teenagers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold walked into the halls of Columbine High School and proceeded to shoot down many of their colleagues and teachers. When the shooting stopped, 12 students and one teacher were dead, while more than twenty were seriously injured.
Their actions marked the worst high school shooting in US history and has been called ‘The Columbine High School massacre’. After the shooting, speculation was rife as to what exactly had caused these two teenagers to commit murder and take their own lives. It was later realized that both were keen followers of the video game ‘doom’. Could playing a video game then have been the cause of the tragedy (O’Toole, 2000)?
