Essay: Career planning- Certification and licensure
Certification and licensure is another requirement needed for all those taking part in this specialization. Professional education program approval involves the voluntary reviewing of college or university professional program for instance, counseling or psychology by a recognized body. This body can be the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP), the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE), and the American Psychological Association (APA) (American Counseling Association, 2010).
The bodies aforementioned are recognized professional bodies that assess the graduate education programs in professional counseling, rehabilitation counseling, and counseling psychology in a respective manner. The sole aim of this assessment is to assure that the graduates of these programs meet the set standards attached to these professions and by the Council on Higher Accreditation (CHEA) which actually oversees all academic authorization bodies.
In general, certified credentialing is referred to as the licensure and is based on the concept of law particularly the regulatory power of the state. Authorization of a state licensure for a specific profession prohibits the practice of that profession by individuals who are not qualified for it. People caught practicing the profession without the set standards are subject to imprisonment, fines or perpetual revocation of license for practice in the future (American Counseling Association, 2010).
