Essay: Benefits of Telecommunication to Employers
Reducing absenteeism- This policy ensures that employees do not have to take leave days off. This would cause a problem in the working environment. When they are working from home, it is incumbent upon them to work within their own time but they also must ensure the tasks are delivered on time. According to Amigoni & Gurvis (2009), communication with main office is handled through a computer and/or other technology.
Broadens labor pool- Geographical barriers do not pose any more threats. The employer is in a position to recruit from far and wide. The people’s different geographical location can work because they are not required to move around (Alison 2010). The employer also has a wide variety of employees to choose from.
Telecommuting plays a role in ensuring that physical meetings are reduced. There are some meetings that are not beneficial to the organization so only those that are beneficial are held. Otherwise, messages can just be communicated to all employees from their various work stations.
Employee empowerment is increased (Haines, 2010). This is because people will have to be self-reliant and creative. It will make them develop a critical mind that is necessary for them to solve whatever challenge they may encounter.
After developing the telecommuting mechanisms, it becomes very easy for employees to collaborate with one another without causing many problems. This collaboration is aimed at increasing the output levels of the employees.
Stuff will not depend on the employer to fully motivate them. This is because while working at home, they are fully in control of their activities without any intervention. This control is good for their productivity and motivation.
