Essay: Art education-Motivation to learn
The instructional design and approach in regards to arts learning emphasize on the leaner centered teaching and learning. As a result, the student takes a more central part in learning process by being an active participant. Thus, learning arts nurture a motivation to learn by this emphasis on active engagement, persistence and risk taking, and disciplined and sustained attention.
In addition to arts as an individual subject motivation, arts study results to a greater good in overall student academic achievement in the sense that engaging motivation gained minimizes student’s risk of dropping out of high school. For instance, in an interview conducted in a certain research (John, Catterall and Richard, 2004) revealed that students at risk of not successfully completing their high school educations cited their participation in the arts as reasons for staying in school.
