PRINCE2 should not be considered a Body of Knowledge (BOK). They are two different tools of project management. PRINCE2 provides a framework of what needs to be done, by whom and when. It is an integrated project management method providing a set of processes and themes that can be applied to manage a project from start to finish.
A BOK provides a range of techniques and describes how you use them. It covers the broad range of competencies and techniques Project Managers may need to apply such as leadership and negotiation.( Hill, Gerard M. 2009, pp. 341-345)
As an analogy, if PRINCE 2 tells you to dig a hole, a BOK explains all the techniques of how to dig it. PRINCE2 provides a framework of what needs to be done, by whom and by when, but leaves you to choose the best method of doing it.
PRINCE2 describes embedding as “the adoption of PRINCE2 across an organization” – the organization’s corporate project management method. It’s not a project-to-project initiative; PRINCE2 becomes part of the organization’s process for dealing with projects. When embedding PRINCE2 at the organizational level, the focus should be on process responsibilities, scaling rules/guidance (for example, score cards), standards (templates, definitions), tailoring and development, integration with business processes, tools and process assurance. ( Dow, William 2009, pp. 564-577)
