In line with Piaget’s observations, I expected the respondents to give different views due to their differences in the level of development. According to Piaget, there are different children in preoperational stage ( which involves children between the age of 2 and 6 years) have different characteristics compared to those in concrete operational stage( between the age of 7 and 11 years) as outlined here below:
They have the ability to use symbols, language, they have great memory and imagination but they do not think logically like adults do.
They are egoistic and therefore they tend to believe much on what they already know and are not able to manipulate other people’s point of view.
Lastly, they cannot take another person’s perspective and this was the reason behind the child’s argument that the amount of water in the container was different and that the stick and the string were of different measurements.
